Tiffany Stone - Opalized Fluorite    This silicated breccia is composed of quartz and fluorite; the stone displays deep purple and salmon-pink along with black manganese veins, white quartz, bertrandite, and an occasional cavity lined with druzy quartz.

Bertrandite contains the mineral beryllium which is the material used to make aerospace components, such as nose cones and shuttle tiles, because it does not heat up at high speeds.

This rare stone comes from a small area in the western desert of Utah, the Brush Wellman beryllium mine.  The area is not open to the public for collecting and very little of this material sees anything other than the ore crusher which extracts the small percentage of beryliima that is present in the stone.
