Turritella  are fossils --  the agatized remains of fresh water gastropods correctly

identified as  Elimia tenera.  They are found in the Green River Formation that stretches through eastern Utah, northern Colorado, and southern Wyoming.

Layers of this animal were deposited in ancient shallow lakes in the early to mid-Eocene Epoch, about 53-42 million years ago.
