Variscite is found in Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico.  Chemically, variscite is a cousin to turquoise and is similar in texture and opacity.  Unlike turquoise,  it is composed of aluminum phosphates.  Frequently matrix inclusions are found in the stone – adding design and character.

Historically, varsicite, like turquoise, has been used extensively in Navajo jewelry.

This variscite was found near Lucin and Box Elder Canyon in Utah.
